The Little River Rail Trail track is one of the easiest and most picturesque rides on the Banks Peninsula that mostly follows the route of an old 19th century railway line between Hornby and Little River via Prebbleton, Lincoln, Motukarara and Birdlings Flat. The Rail Trail takes you through a changing landscape that has seen a thousand years of human history. It passes through rural areas and settlements on the Canterbury Plains, skirts past the massive flanks of the ancient volcanoes which make up Banks Peninsula, and hugs the shoreline of a vast lagoon, Te Waihora or Lake Ellesmere, and its smaller twin, Te Roto o Wairewa or Lake Forsyth.

It is an ideal gateway-ride if you want to try your hands at cycle-touring; the terrain is mostly flat and the conditions quite forgiving. The length of the trail is 49km which makes an easy ride, especially on our fleet of comfortable e-bikes.

Prices include the use of an electric bike, helmet, lock and a shuttle service either to or from Little River, depending on your preference.

The start and end point is at Chill Urban Tours, Ground Floor, Awly Building. 287 Durham St North, Christchurch, unless otherwise arranged.

Cancellation Policy:

- If you cancel 21 days or more prior to the tour date, you can apply for a full refund less 15% deposit (admin fee)

- There is no refund if you cancel less than 21 days prior to the tour date. No refunds will be provided in the event of injury, illness (including Covid-19), lack of fitness, or ability.

If the tour is cancelled by Chill due to circumstances outside our control, a refund less 15% will be given. This is at the discretion of the guide, and safety is the most the most important consideration.

In case of rain or inclement weather, the bike tour will be changed to a walking tour, umbrellas can be provided by Chill.
